High-Drop UV Rotary Printing for Contoured Cups

Steps, raised panels, recessed areas and multi-level surfaces give drinkware a distinctive tactile form, but they also increase the distance variation between the printheads and the cup. High-drop printing creates a wider process window for placing artwork across these changing levels. The UV rotary printer supports a maximum jetting distance of up to 20 mm with Ricoh GEN6 printheads. Combined with shape-matched fixtures, selectable jet curves and 4-, 5- and 6-pass modes, it supports color, white and varnish decoration on selected coated-metal and ceramic contoured cups.

Up to 20 mm High-Drop Jetting

High-drop jetting allows ink droplets to reach surfaces positioned at different heights from the printheads. The UV rotary printer offers low-, medium- and high-jet curve options with 4-, 5- and 6-pass modes, allowing the print setup to be matched to the cup contour, artwork detail and required output. A measured sample test establishes the suitable combination for each product.

FAQ: UV Rotary Printing for High-Drop & Contoured Cups

What is a high-drop or contoured cup?

This category covers cup bodies with steps, raised panels, recessed areas or major surface-height transitions. Smooth straight-wall, tapered and faceted cups are organized in their own Application pages.

What is the maximum high-drop capability of the UV rotary printer?

The Ricoh GEN6 configuration supports a maximum jetting distance of up to 20 mm. The suitable artwork area and print mode are matched to the actual height distribution and contour of the cup.

How are print settings selected for different contours?

The UV rotary printer provides low-, medium- and high-jet curves together with 4-, 5- and 6-pass modes. The curve and pass combination is selected around the surface-height change, artwork detail and target output.

Can raised white and varnish effects be added to contoured cups?

Yes. Color, white and varnish layers can be combined on suitable areas of a contoured cup. Single- and double-pass white and varnish output provide options for different ink-build and raised decorative effects.

What is needed for a high-drop sample test?

Provide the cup dimensions, maximum height difference, contour photos, surface finish, artwork and required print effect. A physical sample and measured profile help determine the fixture, jet curve and pass mode.
