UV Rotary Printing for Tapered & Cola-Style Cups

Tapered drinkware introduces continuous changes in diameter, while cola-style cups combine smooth curves with a narrower waist. These shapes create strong shelf appeal but require the cup angle, fixture and artwork layout to work together during rotary printing. The UV rotary printer provides a -5° to +8° tilt range to better align sloped cup walls with the print path. Combined with Ricoh GEN6 printheads and shape-matched fixtures, it supports color, white and varnish designs across coated-metal and ceramic tapered drinkware.

Match the Print Angle to the Cup Profile

When the cup wall is sloped, changing the rotary angle helps bring the printable surface into a more consistent position relative to the printheads. The UV rotary printer tilt mechanism, fixture and print settings are adjusted together around the cup profile, creating a controlled workflow for tapered and smoothly curved drinkware.

FAQ: UV Rotary Printing for Tapered & Cola-Style Cups

What is the difference between a tapered cup and a high-drop cup?

A tapered cup changes diameter continuously along a smooth wall. A high-drop cup has steps, raised areas, recesses or major height transitions. Cups with only smooth taper or waist curves belong to this Application.

How does the UV rotary printer print tapered cups?

The rotary unit can be adjusted from -5° to +8° to align the sloped cup wall with the print path. The fixture, tilt angle and artwork setup are matched to the actual cup profile.

Can artwork extend across a cola-style curved waist?

Yes. Artwork can be planned across smooth changing diameters and waist curves. A sample test is used to refine image placement and select the appropriate print settings for the specific contour.

What should I provide for a tapered-cup test?

Provide the top and bottom diameters, printable length, cup height, surface finish, artwork and target ink effects. A physical sample allows the tilt and fixture settings to be developed around the real product.
